SUNRISE - A SONG OF TWO HUMANS
LBBLURAY30
"Sunrise" was F.W. Munrau's first film in Hollywood; it won three Academy Awards at the first-ever Oscars ceremony in 1928. Released with synchronized sound effects and music, it was also one of the earliest sound features from Hollywood. A young married farmer falls under the spell of a woman from the city; she involves him in a scheme to murder his wife, sell the farm, and run off to the city with her. One of the first 25 films selected by the U.S. Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant", "Sunrise" is both a milestone in film history and a movie that you will never forget. Our version of "Sunrise" is taken mainly from a pristine 1927 35mm Czech print along with segments from a 1937 Movietone re-print. We've replaced the Movietone soundtrack with new music and effects by Doctor X with a little help from his friend Andy Hollinger, who provided banjo, guidance, and inspiration for the nightclub scenes. The picture quality and the soundtrack are both absolutely stunning - highly recommended. |
